IS FRANK HENENLOTTER AMERICA'S MOST DANGEROUS FILMMAKER?

The Blu-ray disc for Frank Henenlotter's FRANKENHOOKER was released a short while ago. Like numerous other titles that fly low under the A-list, this film has gained somewhat of a cult following. The director, Frank Henenlotter has even been referred to as a bit of an auteur. FRANKENHOOKER is a decidedly strange movie, but it has a darkly comedic flair that is successful in its execution and, as a result, hard to ignore.

I showed you the full-page back cover ad of TOXIC HORROR #1 a couple of days ago. Inside the issue is an article/interview with Frank Henenlotter by FRANKENHOOKER's co-scriptwriter Robert Martin. It provides a brief but revealing look at the man and his movies.

DO THE MONSTER MASK!

Pictured here is a one-page ad from the back cover of TOXIC HORROR #1 (1989), a short-lived horror film 'zine from the STARLOG line of magazines that actually had some pretty solid writing. The depicted masks are all pretty gruesome and are fairly typical of the type that were produced during this time, as designes leaned more towards the outlandish and away from the classic. One look at "Baby Stinky" and who could disagree!
