Vee: I can't believe this will be the first year without Harry Potter- no book releases, no films, nothing.
I first heard about the series from my best friend, who kept hounding me to read it. Now, she tried to get me to read a lot of things, without much success.
Then, one day, I was on The Internet and ran into the most interesting little fanfic featuring Harry and Draco. I read the entire multi-chaptered thing before running out of the house at full tilt to purchase the books.
Finding them in the children's section was a dagger in my high-schooler's ego and culminated in me creeping up to the cash with the series sandwiched between ESSENTIAL DEBIAN TOOLKIT and DESIGNING NETWORK TOPOLOGY. It was a clever ruse, up until the point I actually had to pay for them. The clerk seemed excited to find a fellow fan. I shouted NO in her face until the payment went through, fled from the store, and wasn't heard from again for several weeks as I read the first four books back-to-back, often shirking classes to do so.
I'll admit it now though- I am a fan. And the HPless 2012 makes me sad.

Jaime: As cool as it is to be a Wizard or Witch in the Harry Potter series, you also have to wonder at their total lack of technology. Why don't Wizards have televisions and computers? I know magical healing is potent, but have they cured everything that science has? And, if they have, isn't it incredibly immoral not to share those discoveries with the world? These are the questions that keep me up at night...
Vee: They don't have TVs and computers because tech doesn't work around magic, dumbass. RTFB.
